Introduction:
Hello, I’m Ni Yuzhao, Allen. Welcome to my personal page. I am currently a research assistant at the School of ComputingNational University of Singapore. I received a Bachelor degree (first class honors) last year from Department of Electrical Engineering, National University of Singapore.

After I graduated, I had a wonderful opportunity to join the Media Search Group under Prof. Chua Tat Seng. Meanwhile, I'm also working with Dr. Shuicheng Yan and his awesome lab members. My current research interests covers the areas of large-scale media search, social media analysis, computer vision, machine learning and optimization methods. My research experience includes face recognition in social media, query recommendation, spectral clustering, convex optimization, and age estimation. I also worked on multi-agent path planning during my Final Year Project and hardware and embedded system design projects during vacations.

Education:
Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Eng. 1st Class Honor, second major in Mathematics)
National University of Singapore
(August 2006 - July 2010)

Experience:
Research Assistant (With Prof. Chua Tat Seng)
(July 2010 - Present)
Research Project: Interactive Face-tagging on Facebook
 1. Built an interactive face-tagging application for Facebook via clustering and active learning.
 2. Improve the accuracy of face recognition by incorporating social contexts.

Research Internship(With Prof. Yan Shuicheng)
(December 2009 - July 2010)
Research Project: Robust Low-Rank Subspace Segmentation
1. Proposed an optimization-based affinity learning method specialized for general subspace segmentation and application in motion segmentation.
2. Provided theoretic insight into the method and motivated new research in the general problem of subspace segmentation.
Research Project: Web Image Mining towards Universal Age Estimator
1. Enhanced an existing age estimation framework by incorporating face alignment methods.
2. Designed an interface to demonstrate the project.
Research Project: On Proximal Gradient Majorization-Minimization Methods
1. Proposed an optimal gradient Majorization-Minimization method, which applies APG methods to optimize non-convex functions with convex majorizations.
2. The method can be easily extended to a stochastic approximation MM method.

Final Year Project Student (With Prof. Alexander Nareyek)
(December 2008 - May 2010)
Research Project: Tactical Multi-unit Path Planning
1. Analyzed various constraints of complex path planning problems.
2. Proposed a mathematical model for general tactical multi-unit path planning problem.
3. Developed a fast algorithm to solve the problem.
